Ai Top Story

My oh My… MAi-1 is coming…

Despite its partnership with OpenAI, Microsoft invested $11 Billion in developing its very own large language model (LLM) called MAi-1.

MAi-1 is still in development and hasn’t been officially announced yet. But Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott shared his thoughts on LinkedIn regarding the Company’s strategy.

These are the key points:

  • It’s expected to have around 500 billion parameters. For context, while it is far bigger than its predecessors, it will still fall short of OpenAi’s GPT-4 with over a trillion parameters.

  • Microsoft is using powerful computers (like Nvidia GPUs) and data to train MAI-1, showing the big investments needed for advanced AI development.

  • The Development of MAI-1 is led by Mustafa Suleyman, who used to work at Google AI. He was also the CEO of an AI startup called Inflection.

What this means for you:

This allows Microsoft to challenge Ai leaders like Google while reducing dependence on partners like OpenAi. And seeing another Competitor is never a bad thing, as it opens more opportunities.

Even though MAI-1 might not be as big as GPT-4, it’s definitely shaping up to be a strong competitor in the AI language model field.

The exact purpose and selling points are not yet clear… But if you know some of the back story on how Microsoft acquired Open Ai and one of its founders Sam Altman, and the stink one Elon Musk is making about it as one of the early investors in Open Ai…

Our guess is that MAi is a parachute if OpenAi goes sideways in the courts… Thoughts?

TikTok Labels Ai-generated Content. Plus: OpenAI’s New Tool

While TikTok already labels content made with TikTok AI, it’s started automatically labelling AI-created content made on other platforms–like OpenAI’s DALL-E–with “AI-generated”.

What are your thoughts on AI content being pointed out on all social feeds by the big companies… it’s a good thing, right? Or should it just be viewed as any other post?

On another note, OpenAI is developing a tool—Media Manager—that will allow content creators to control how their work is used in AI training, aimed at preventing future content copyright lawsuits.

The US Has A Huge Lead Over China In Ai

Reuters reported the Commerce Department mulls tighter limits on exporting closed-source models (e.g., GPT-4, Claude 3) to China. Even the head of Saudi Arabia’s $100 billion AI fund said, readiness to withdraw from China upon the request of the United States.

According to Chinese researchers, they are five to ten years behind their US counterparts.

The Impact Ai has on your education:

Canva's survey shows high burnout among US K-12 teachers: 35% daily, 83% occasionally. 57% consider leaving. Teachers increasingly use AI tools to ease their workload and address pain points. 42 % already use AI tools, finding them helpful in boosting efficiency and reducing burnout. Even non-users recognize AI's potential, with 56% believing it could alleviate burnout.

A Weekly.Ai Prediction

In the near future, interacting with various Ai’s will be as natural as talking with fellow humans today. Despite the widespread chatter about artificial intelligence, our encounters with advanced Ai systems are mostly limited to occasional interactions like tasking ChatGPT or Google Bard/Gemini to write quick posts or letters for us.

We predict, by 2030-ish, a pretty good transition, where Ai is integrated into our lives, as personal assistants, educators, advisors, therapists, accountants, and even legal advisors.

Ai will be deeply engrained in our professional lives, from analysis and coding to product development, sales, customer support, team coordination, and strategic decision-making.

Furthermore, it will be commonplace for individuals to form significant relationships with their Ai…. not sure if it will be robots by then… but defiantly Joaquin Phoenix in the movie Her?? Thoughts?
